In glass, texture is more than a visual detail. It’s a defining element that shapes how a piece interacts with light and space.
Texture refers to the surface quality of glass - whether it’s smooth, matte, rippled, etched, or layered. These variations influence how light moves through the material. A polished, clear surface allows for maximum transparency and reflection, while a textured or sandblasted surface scatters light, creating softness and diffusion.
In our work, texture is used to guide how viewers connect with a piece. The same colour palette can feel entirely different depending on how the glass is finished. Controlling texture can influence how open or private a piece feels, how light behaves around it, and what kind of atmosphere it creates.
Smooth glass invites clarity. It reveals what’s behind it and captures reflections, emphasising precision and brightness. In contrast, textured glass filters and softens light, often producing a glow rather than a shine. This difference affects the visual depth and the emotional tone of a space.
Texture also adds a tactile dimension. Even when a piece isn’t meant to be touched, its surface invites a sensory response - the suggestion of smoothness, grain, or movement adds character and depth.
